v3.5.1

Release
April 28, 2026

What's New

Improvements

  • Improved Quick Preview drag-and-drop after taking a screenshot, making immediate drags feel smoother and preventing freezes when dropping the file into Finder or other apps.

v3.5.0

Release
April 28, 2026

What's New

Improvements

  • Renamed the sidebar Cloud tab to Library and updated its icon.
  • Expanded Library to show local screenshots and recordings from the configured save folder, alongside cloud-backed files.
  • Added Library filters for All, Cloud, Images, Videos, and GIFs, plus a remembered Grid/List view toggle.
  • Added cloud badges, source-aware actions, local Save As conversion, and a cloud delete dialog for deleting cloud-only or both local and cloud copies.
  • Improved Library performance for large folders with paged indexing, virtualized grid/list rendering, lazy thumbnails, and bounded thumbnail cache cleanup.
  • Improved Pencil drawing reliability, especially for Windows users, by keeping active strokes alive when the pointer leaves the image edge.
  • Added OCR inside the editor with selectable recognized text regions and automatic full-text copy when OCR is activated.
  • Added editor image Crop mode with draggable/resizeable crop bounds, Apply/Cancel controls, and annotation-preserving image replacement.
  • Added an Eraser mode alongside Hand for hover-previewing annotations and deleting them with a click.
  • Reworked the primary tool panel: Emoji is now a first-row tool, Pencil is the default Text-group tool, and emoji placement switches to Hand with the new emoji selected.
  • Made tool controls more consistent with disabled placeholders for unavailable color/size controls, plus a more opaque tool panel and higher-contrast sidebar labels.

v3.4.21

Release
April 27, 2026

What's New

Improvements

  • Made Quick Preview appear faster after area, fullscreen, and window captures by showing the preview before background save work finishes.
  • Cleaned up the window picker so ScreenSnap's own hidden helper windows no longer appear as capture choices.
  • Improved OCR packaging on macOS so production users do not need Xcode command line tools to use text recognition.
  • Improved native recording diagnostics and stability when ScreenCaptureKit exits unexpectedly.

v3.4.18

Release
April 24, 2026

What's New

Improvements

  • Improved the blur tool so the editor preview now matches the exported result.
  • Refined the default blur intensity for a more natural, less aggressive look.
  • Fixed dragging, resizing, and rotating so they no longer get interrupted when the cursor moves near the edge of the canvas.

v3.4.17

Release
April 24, 2026

What's New

Improvements

  • Fixed an issue where the editor could appear while selecting a screenshot area on Windows.
  • Fixed captures on Windows so the selected area is captured instead of ScreenSnap's own overlay or editor window.
  • Improved the capture flow so the editor hides before clipping and returns after the capture is complete.
  • Improved screen recording startup on Windows to prevent ScreenSnap setup or picker windows from appearing in the recording.
  • Added native Windows window controls to the editor, including minimize, maximize, and close buttons.
  • Adjusted the Windows editor header spacing so native window controls have their own space above the app controls.
  • Preserved the existing macOS editor experience, including the custom rounded window and native traffic light controls.
  • Kept the fast macOS capture flow intact while improving shared capture reliability across platforms.
  • Maintained the current macOS screen recording behavior while tightening startup timing for a more consistent experience.

v3.4.14

Release
April 16, 2026

What's New

Smoother recordings

  • We made screen recordings start and stop cleanly every time, even after long sessions of back-to-back recordings.
  • We now let you know straight away if something goes wrong while recording, instead of leaving you with a broken video.
  • We cleaned up leftover background activity after a recording ends, so the app stays light and responsive.

Snappier everywhere

  • We stopped the brief pause that happened when cloud uploads were getting started.
  • We made preview thumbnails for recordings appear faster.
  • We tidied up preview windows so the app keeps feeling fresh, even after a full day of use.

Safer under the hood

  • We picked up the latest security updates from the tools we build on.

Screenshots and the editor are just as instant as before — we made sure not to touch what already feels fast.

v3.4.10

Release
April 10, 2026

What's New

  • Significantly reduced CPU and GPU usage. Disabled CSS animations, transitions, and backdrop-filter blur effects that were causing a constant 25–30% CPU/GPU load on Mac even while idle.

v3.4.8

Feature
April 7, 2026

What's New

Performance

  • Screenshot activation is now near-instant — pressing the screenshot shortcut now shows the capture overlay in under 30ms, even on repeated use. Previously, subsequent activations could take up to 6 seconds.
  • Fullscreen & window screenshots show previews faster — the quick preview now appears immediately after capture, without waiting for file saving to finish. Saving happens silently in the background.
  • Text recognition (OCR) no longer has a cold-start delay — previously, using OCR after a few minutes of inactivity caused a 5+ second wait. Now it responds in under half a second every time.
  • Editor zoom is smoother — zooming with trackpad pinch or scroll wheel is now fluid and responsive, with no more stuttering at higher zoom levels.
  • Panning while zoomed in is smoother — dragging the canvas with the hand tool no longer lags.

New Features

  • Quick Preview position setting — choose which corner of the screen the preview appears in: Bottom Right (default), Bottom Left, Top Right, or Top Left. Find it in Settings > Quick Preview.
  • Auto-hide toggle for previews — choose whether previews disappear automatically after a few seconds, or stay on screen until you swipe or close them. Find it in Settings > Quick Preview.

v3.4.5

Release
April 6, 2026

What's New

  • Smoother captures and recordings
Starting a screenshot or recording should feel quicker and more responsive, especially when you jump straight into saving, editing, or recording.

  • Faster preview popups
Your preview window now appears more smoothly when you finish a capture, while the app stays lighter in the background when you are not using it.

  • More reliable setup and license screens
Opening onboarding or Settings repeatedly should feel more stable, with fewer chances of buttons or status updates acting strangely behind the scenes.

  • Better wallpaper browsing
Browsing large custom wallpaper collections should feel lighter and less memory-hungry, while keeping the currently selected wallpaper quick to view and use.

v3.4.4

Release
April 5, 2026

What's New

  • Camera overlay on Mac
Using your webcam in recordings should work more reliably. If a permission window doesn’t appear when you ask for camera access, the app can take you to the right place in Settings, with short tips on the permissions screen. If ScreenSnap Pro isn’t listed there yet, installing the latest version of the app again often sorts it out.

v3.4.3

Release
April 1, 2026

What's New in ScreenSnap Pro

  • Choose your default screenshot format
You can now pick whether screenshots and editor exports save as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or AVIF.

  • More flexibility for sharing
Stick with PNG for maximum quality, or choose smaller formats when you want files that are easier to send and upload.

  • Clearer format choices in Settings
The screenshot format setting now includes simple guidance so it is easier to choose the option that fits your workflow.

  • Better support for modern image formats
ScreenSnap now works more smoothly with newer formats like AVIF when opening, exporting, and managing images.

  • Save As still gives you control
Even with a default format selected, you can still choose a different format anytime you use Save As.

v3.4.2

Release
March 31, 2026

What's New

  • Smarter performance behind the scenes — Reduced unnecessary background work so ScreenSnap makes better use of your Mac's CPU, GPU, and memory (RAM), helping the app feel lighter while keeping captures fast when you need them.
  • Improved resource handling — Cleaned up temporary capture elements more efficiently and trimmed extra startup activity, which helps reduce overhead and supports a more stable experience over longer sessions.

v3.4.1

Release
March 28, 2026

What's New

  • Overall polish — Refined the app's UI and UX and improved overall stability for a smoother, more reliable experience.

v3.4.0

Release
March 24, 2026

What's New

  • Custom file naming — Added a new File Name Pattern setting. Use tokens like {{datetime}} and {{UUID}} to customize saved screenshot names.
  • Smarter saves — Your naming pattern now applies to screenshots, edited image exports, and recordings, with automatic duplicate handling.
  • Faster tool access — The active grouped tool icon now opens the same tool dropdown as the chevron.
  • Cleaner control panel — Removed hover motion and extra chevron chrome for a calmer, more polished tool panel.
  • Steadier text controls — The text style dropdown now keeps a fixed width and no longer resizes the control panel.
  • Settings tab fix — The control panel now stays hidden on Settings, Shortcuts, and Cloud even after screenshot refreshes.

v3.3.1

Release
March 21, 2026

What's New

  • General improvements — Stability tweaks, minor UI polish, and under-the-hood fixes for a smoother experience.

v3.3.0

Release
March 20, 2026

  • Cleaner video sound — Screen recordings now sound much smoother and more polished, especially when capturing app audio.

  • Camera overlay for recordings — You can now add your camera while recording and keep it visible as a floating preview.

  • More control while recording — It is now easier to choose what shows up in your recording, including your cursor and camera.

  • Less clutter on screen — You can hide desktop icons before recording and have them come back automatically when you are done.

  • A more polished recording flow — Starting, pausing, and finishing a recording now feels more natural and dependable.

v3.2.0

Release
March 18, 2026

What's New

  • Faster screenshot capture — Taking a screenshot now feels quicker and more responsive, especially when starting a new capture.

  • Smoother first editor open — The editor now opens faster on first launch and avoids the awkward empty-state flash before your screenshot appears.

  • Smoother wallpaper switching — Background and wallpaper changes now fade more smoothly instead of switching with a harsh blink.

  • Better control panel layout — The tool panel was reorganized to make the main tools easier to reach, with a cleaner and more focused layout.

  • Cleaner hand and move tools — The hand/move controls were simplified, updated visually, and made more consistent with the rest of the toolbar.

  • Improved dropdown behavior — Tool menus now open in smarter directions when space is tight, so they are less likely to get cut off near the bottom of the screen.

  • Better color and slider controls — Color selection and tool settings were cleaned up visually and made easier to use.

  • More reliable cursors — Cursor behavior was improved across tools like move, pencil, screenshot capture, and color picking so the app feels more consistent.

  • More stable zooming and drawing — Drawings now stay in place more reliably when zooming, and effects like pixelate behave properly even on zoomed screenshots.

  • Improved Spotlight behavior — Spotlight now layers correctly with other annotations, so it no longer appears behind older drawings.

  • Better export reliability — Exports now preserve wallpapers and backgrounds more reliably, matching what you see in the editor more closely.

  • Pinned screenshot OCR fix — Text recognition from pinned screenshots now works properly again.

  • Better editor window behavior — If the editor is open in the background, regular screenshots no longer force it to jump in front unless you explicitly open the editor.

  • Capture quality and accuracy fixes — Selection, crop alignment, and screenshot bounds were improved to make captures feel more precise.

  • General stability improvements — Many smaller issues were fixed across screenshot capture, dropdowns, annotation tools, editor loading, and overall app behavior.
