About DPI Conversion
🖨️ What is DPI?
DPI (Dots Per Inch) defines how many pixels fit in one printed inch. Higher DPI means more detail and sharper prints, but larger file sizes.
📐 Common DPI Values
72 DPI for web/screen, 96 DPI for Windows displays, 150 DPI for draft prints, 300 DPI for high-quality printing (photos, brochures, business cards).
🔄 Metadata vs Pixels
This tool can either just change the DPI metadata (keeping pixels the same but changing print size) or resize pixel dimensions to maintain the same physical print size at the new DPI.
🔒 100% Private
Your images never leave your device. All conversion happens locally in your browser. No upload, no server, no data collection.

What is DPI and why does it matter?
DPI (Dots Per Inch) measures how many pixels are packed into one inch of a printed image. Higher DPI means sharper prints. 72 DPI is standard for web, 150 DPI for draft prints, and 300 DPI for high-quality printing.
Does changing DPI change image quality?
Changing DPI metadata alone does not change quality — it only changes the print size. However, if you also resize pixels to match the new DPI (enabled by default in this tool), the image dimensions will change. Upscaling adds pixels via interpolation and may look softer; downscaling reduces pixels.
What DPI should I use for printing?
For high-quality prints (photos, brochures), use 300 DPI. For large-format prints viewed from a distance (posters, banners), 150 DPI is usually sufficient. For web or screen use, 72 or 96 DPI is standard.
Is this DPI converter free and private?
