Tips

  1. 1. Speak at normal volume — meter should peak around 50–70%.

  3. 3. Reduce background noise: close windows, mute fans, move away from the keyboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the microphone test private?+
Yes. All audio processing happens locally in your browser using the Web Audio API. Nothing is uploaded, recorded server-side, or analyzed. The 5-second sample lives only in your browser memory.
Why is the meter not moving?+
Make sure you granted microphone permission, that the correct device is selected, and that your microphone is not muted at the OS level. Try a different input if you have multiple.
Can I download the recorded sample?+
Yes. After recording a 5-second sample you can play it back and click Download as WAV to save it. The file is generated entirely on your device — uncompressed 16-bit PCM mono WAV.
What sample rate is used?+
The tool records at your browser's AudioContext sample rate, which is typically 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz depending on your system. The exact rate is embedded in the WAV header.
What does the clipping warning mean?+
Clipping means your input level is too high and the audio is being distorted. Lower the microphone gain in your OS settings or move further away from the mic.
Does it work on mobile?+
Yes, on modern mobile browsers that support getUserMedia. On iOS Safari you must tap Start once after the page loads to satisfy the autoplay policy.
