Audio and Webcam Setup
Record your microphone, system audio and webcam with ScreenSnap Pro on Mac and Windows, and fix permission or device problems quickly.
Choose your camera and audio
Camera and audio are set in the capture controls in Screen Recording mode, before you start. ScreenSnap Pro remembers your choices for the next recording, including recordings started with a shortcut.

- 1Open the capture controls: choose "Record Screen" from the menu bar icon (Mac) or the tray icon's right-click menu (Windows).
- 2Camera: click the camera button (it reads "No camera" when off) and choose a camera. A small self view of the camera appears in the bottom right corner of your screen so you can check your framing.
- 3Microphone: click the microphone button ("No microphone" when off) and choose an input.
- 4System audio: click the button to switch between "No system audio" and "System audio". This records the sound your computer plays, such as a video or an app alert.
- 5Click "Display" or "Area" to start recording.
Camera, microphone and system audio are available for Video recordings only. They are switched off while the format is set to GIF.
How your webcam is recorded
While a camera is selected, the small self view stays in the bottom right corner of your screen, and you can drag it anywhere. The self view is not part of the screen recording: your webcam is saved as its own track and appears as a round overlay in the bottom right corner when you open the recording in the video editor. There you can move, resize, reshape or hide it, or show it full screen for part of the video. See Webcam, Cam Scenes and Cursor.
How audio is recorded
System audio stays with the screen video, while the microphone is saved as its own track. In the video editor, the clip's sound starts as one combined row, so mute and volume apply to both. To adjust them separately, right-click the clip and choose "Split into video & audio tracks": system audio moves to the A lane and your microphone to the M lane, each with its own mute and volume. You can also clean up your voice with "Enhance mic (Studio Sound)".
On Mac, system audio is captured independently of your speaker volume and mute control. Turn "System audio" off when you do not want computer sounds in the recording.
Permissions on Mac
macOS asks for permission the first time ScreenSnap Pro uses the screen, the microphone or the camera. You can review all of them in ScreenSnap Pro under Settings > Permissions. The Permissions on macOS and Windows article covers every permission the app uses.
- 1Screen Recording: required for any recording. Click "Allow Screen Recording".
- 2Microphone: optional, only needed if you record your voice. Click "Allow Microphone Access", or turn on ScreenSnap Pro in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
- 3Camera: optional, only needed for the webcam. Click "Allow Camera Access". If macOS does not show a prompt, open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and turn on ScreenSnap Pro.
After changing Screen Recording permission in System Settings, quit and reopen ScreenSnap Pro so the change takes effect.
Permissions on Windows
Windows has no Permissions tab in ScreenSnap Pro. If your camera or microphone is missing from the list, open the Windows privacy settings for the camera and the microphone (Settings > Privacy & security on Windows 11) and make sure desktop apps are allowed to use them.
Troubleshooting
Most camera and audio problems show up in the capture controls before you start.
- 1A device button is highlighted with a message such as "The selected recording source could not be started. Check it and try again.": make sure the device is connected and not used exclusively by another app, then choose it again.
- 2"The selected microphone is no longer available. Choose another microphone or No microphone.": your saved microphone was disconnected. Pick another input from the list.
- 3A camera or microphone stops in the middle of a recording: the recording controls show a warning and the screen keeps recording.
- 4No computer sound in the video: "System audio" must be on before you start. It cannot be switched on during a recording.
- 5The camera, microphone and system audio buttons are greyed out: the format is set to GIF. Switch the format menu to "Video".
